Chilson Project
The Chilson Family by default fell into the lap of H.O.T. Youth in need of heating & cooling in their home. Mr. Chilson is a single father raising his son working 2 jobs most of the time to make ends meet. Their AC unit went out sometime Spring of 2009 and most of the summer they went without air conditioning. To most people that would be tragic, but this family did what they had to and used their resources. H.O.T. Youth received word of this situation from another family that doesn't want to be mentioned and asked if we can help them. Needless to say, we accepted! This was going to be a challenge for H.O.T. Youth- it was out of our budget. A new AC unit for this home could cost close to $3,000.00 easily and not one of us remotely knew how to install one. So, going back to that, "Think outside the box," we utilized our resources just like the Chilson's and approached to Target Air Conditioning, Odessa, TX and asked him if and could he help H.O.T. Youth with this project. Yes they did! Not only did they give their time & knowledge since their the professionals, Target Air Conditioning donated an air conditioning unit to this family. The scope of work for this project included H.O.T. Youth planning with Target A/C insuring they would have materials needed for the project, which they did. We planned to clean up the families yard, organize piles of wood & metal that needed to be moved and organized & inside we cleaned out cabinets and reorganized items. As a result the family didn't know how to accept all of this, both father & son had tears of joy and H.OT Youth could sleep at night knowing a family has A/C for the summer & a warm bed to sleep in for winter. It really showed our Youth who volunteered for this project how much we take for granted and how truly blessed we really are. |
